Canada’s largest online city guide launched Sept. 1, 1997 as a partnership between The Toronto Star, Canada's largest daily newspaper, and CitySearch, a Los Angeles-based publisher of online city guides (now Ticketmaster Citysearch).
In 1998, The Star secured the rights to the domain name toronto.com, and later that year entered into a partnership with Tele-Direct, publisher of the Yellow Pages directory. CitySearch subsequently relinquished its ownership stake and the partnership changed several times over the next five years as a reflection of developments at Bell Canada Enterprises. In March 2003 The Toronto Star re-acquired 100 per cent ownership of the business. toronto.com has since become a division of Metroland Printing, Publishing & Distributing Ltd.
toronto.com currently serves more than 15 million pages monthly, to more than 650,000 unique users, and provides web publishing and online media services to almost 1,000 clients.
